Personal and Professional Statements
• Over the years of working in the child welfare system, I noticed a great need for Spanish-speaking/bilingual therapists. I took it upon myself to be prepared to make a difference in our community and focus in the treatment of abused/traumatized children and families. Furthermore, having immigrated to the United States as a child, I can relate and share similar experiences with immigrant families of our community, understand their problems, and develop appropriate goals. I, however, can assist individuals from any ethnicity or culture since I have been trained and appreciate each person's backgrounds.
• It is truly my privilege to work with individuals and families and together ease their pain/discomfort and further develop as human beings. I believed that the connection made between the client and therapist is the most important aspect of how one can instill change with those who lend themselves to this process. As a Spanish-speaking therapist, I have an opportunity to understand and work with families from different Latino cultures. I take great pride in the belief that behind every individual stands a family.
